Empowerment for workers and folks who are otherwise disadvantaged in the coffee chain is greatly important to us. Similar to our offering from Bella Vista in Chiapas, Mexico, this coffee is produced by a collective called APROCCURMA (Asociación de Productores Cafetaleros de la Cuenca del Rio Marañón) which is composed of 124 women members. This lot, Cafe de Mujer, comes from northern Peru and is a significant achievement of empowerment for women in the coffee industry there, who usually put in all of the work to get few of the benefits. APROCCURMA provides training on farm management and environmental practices to these women and secures them pathways to ownership for the land they work. This coffee is the product of that work, directing all of the revenue for this lot to the network of women it supports.
In the cup is something beautifully sweet and simple. As soon as you start grinding this coffee you'll catch the brightness of cherry Twizzlers! Brewed up that sweetness carries over and is supplemented by a cool, melon-y tang. While light at first, as the coffee cools down it really shines with a syrupy body and a lingering cotton candy sweetness. This coffee is unapologetically simple, but undeniably tasty.
